I met Kirsten and Joe at Planting Fields Arboretum in Long Island for their engagement session on a cold and blustery day. The weather wasn’t supposed to be cold and blustery.. in fact all weather forecasts pointed to a beautiful, sunny, and warm day. Because it was a bit of a far drive for me, my fiancé Peg came along so she could get to spend the day with me (she is the best!). It was raining for a good portion of our trip down. I was driving and I was having Peg check the weather app periodically on her phone. The story remained the same… it was raining here but there is zero chance of rain in Long Island today. Perfect. As we got to Long Island it started to rain. And then the rain got harder. Weather app still reported zero chance of rain. Ugh. Well if I’ve learned anything from photographing weddings it’s that you have to make do with the current weather and it doesn’t matter what the forecast says. I worked fast and luckily the rain held off, for the most part.
Kirsten and Joe picked Planting Fields Arboretum for their engagement session because it’s a place that’s important to them. They picnic here in the summer and even have a favorite tree here (you can see a picture of Kirsten sitting on a branch of it below). Kirsten’s grandparents even got engaged here! I actually got to photograph Kirsten and Joe in the very spot where her grandparents were engaged. How special is that? Kirsten and Joe are going to get married at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz next summer. I can’t wait!
